Hans Josephson was a quite famous Swiss sculptor, he used a
lot of bronze in his figure work and also liked to create abstract relief
panels.
There is now a whole exhibition of his work 23 Feb – 14 April
2013 at Modern Art Oxford and a further showing at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park
11 May – 3 November 2013.
Emotion drove him to create art, it was a turbulent time in
politics in his youth and he moved around a lot to secure a more peaceful
surrounding for himself.
The politics of the day left him churned up inside, he used
his talents in art and sculpture to channel this nervous energy into something
beautiful, and this had a soothing and calming effect on him and he was able to
manage his temperament.
