Malcolm Morley’s pictures are large and bright, I could see them clearly from the floor above the hall in the Ashmolean. They have unusual scenarios painted in a vivid style which is eye catching and intriguing.
The ones I remember are the three motor bikes scrambling over a low wall, all bunched together but wheels turned out all ready to shoot off again.
There was also a more realistic picture of a traffic holdup with some cars that had crashed into each other. Although, everyday it stood out and held the attention because of the detail.
Morley was born in London in 1931 and was the first person to win the Turner Prize.
